Six Skills to Teach Your Kids This Summer

Each summer we tackle a few skills that are either not taught in school, or are addressed too briefly to be truly learned.   Business and home economics classes no longer fit into academically aggressive schedules, making it necessary to teach at least the basics at home.

Here are some of the skills we have or will be working on.  Some are on my "continuing education" list to review each summer, and others we randomly revisit to polish up.

  1. Typing
  2. Accounting/Banking
  3. Letter Writing
  4. Power Point
  5. Photo Editing
  6. Cooking

All of these skills can be taught to children much younger than mine, and there are definitely skills that could be added to the list.  Allow this to be your jumping off point, and don't let the opportunity to teach your child pass you by just because it's summer "vacation."    As a matter of fact, with a little creativity you might even convince your children that summer learning is fun!
